    Description

    Background:
The year is 1943, a war weary public (looking for the perfect escape) flock to theaters in droves around the country for 77 minutes of joyful bliss. The famous
    Stormy Weather
(Twentieth Century Fox, 1943) featured 20 musical ensembles by the most noteworthy musical prodigies the nation had ever seen.
    Stormy Weather
redefined the musical genre, the lasting implications of the musical on the film industry both nationally - and abroad - remain clearly visible.
    The One Sheet Itself:
This one sheet is for the
    original 1943 release
    , and
    NOT
the 1950 re-release. Most notably for the time (1943), this one sheet proudly displays its Black performers. The one sheet reads “Stormy Weather with Lena Horne, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Cab Calloway and his band, Katherine Dunham and her troupe, Fats Waller, Nicholas Brothers.”
In the lower left: “Directed By Andrew Stone, Produced by William LeBaron, Screen Play by Frederick Jackson & Ted Koehler, Adaptation by H.S. Kraft - A 20th Century Fox Picture.”
At the very bottom of this one sheet, left to right:
    “LITHO. IN U.S.A” —
    8/87

“THIS POSTER IS THE PROPERTY OF TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX FILM CORP. IT IS LEASED-NOT SOLD. COPYRIGHT 1943 BY TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX FILM CORP.”
    “TOOKER LITHO. CO. N.Y.”
!!This is the 8th one sheet of
    Stormy Weather
in a one sheet edition of 87, making this one of the earliest editions in the world !!
Verso of the Poster Stamped as Follows:
Black Ink Stamp: “Independent Poster Exch. 1323 Vine St. - Phila, Pa.” (stamped twice)
Red Ink Stamp: “Stormy Weather 1 Sht.”
    Hand Scrawled: “8/87”
    One Sheet Depictions:
This poster incorporates HIGH VIBRANCY colors that have maintained their incredible color tone through the years. Colors are deep, and have not become “washed out” over time. Truly STRIKING! This one sheet certainly draws the eye - as it was beautifully designed to do so.
Five of its stars - the most notable in the musical world - are shown: Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Katherine Dunham, and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Each of these depictions are HIGHLY detailed and boast highly complex color pallets. “Light” is an artistic element the artist uses BEAUTIFULLY throughout the one sheet - illuminating the film’s stars, giving them warmth and life!
    Present Form:
This one sheet is in its
    ORIGINAL FORM
    . It has
    NOT
been linen backed, or otherwise restored/touched-up in ANY way, shape, or form. As sellers, we decided to leave the decision up to the new owner whether or not this piece is to be linen backed. However, we highly
    encourage
you to do so. This is a fragile piece - as is any one sheet from 1943. To prevent any additional wear down the road, linen backing would be advised. The wear on this one sheet is NOT substantial. The linen backing process will help to eliminate those minor traces of wear. In other words, this one sheet (if so desired) can be made to look close to “as new.”
    In deciding to list
    Stormy Weather
, we elected as sellers NOT to linen back the one sheet for several reasons.
    1. There are some buyers who prefer a piece in original form
    2. There are some buyers who prefer to have a piece linen backed by their own means (having trusted and proven linen backing providers).
The wear as it stands is
    MINOR
, no major imperfections that are beyond the scope of the minor restoration process. ALL of this wear is photographed in detail below!
Elements of wear currently visible that stand to be EASILY remedied through proper restoration/touch-up, linen backing process:
    Very Minor Tears (photographed)
    Fold Lines (photographed)
    Minor Cross Fold Seperation (photographed)
Minor Paper Loss at Border Top Left (photographed)
Overall, this is quite possible one of the most sought after (and rightfully so) one sheets in contemporary time. This is a showcase piece for anyone hoping to bolster (or rather, complete) their growing collection!
    At
    8/87
, this is one of the FIRST edition
    Stormy Weather
    one sheets to be issued.
    Dimensions

~If you have any further questions, or would like to see any additional photos, please do not hesitate to reach out in the form of an email.
~I will get back to you promptly.
Note the "solid" back - this photo is to show the
lack of light passing through fissures/cracks/etc
. The back of this piece, in my opinion, serves to highlight its solid condition. Please note at the center left hand side, this (divot) is NOT the result of MISSING paper, it is merely folded back - see photo of this "divot" amended when laid flat (unfolded).
The minor tears on this one sheet are temporarily backed. The linen backing process would mend the minor tears.
    Slight separation along fold lines.
    Slight separation along fold line.
Slight tears stemming from border (temporarily backed)
Slight paper loss border upper left hand corner.
