Description
Awaiting your purchase is an important and colossal early coin silver stuffing spoon made by the silversmithA.E. Warner.
Andy, as he called himself, of
Harford County, Maryland,
born
1786,
and working with his father, brother, and later his son, was a master silversmith. Not everyone's work ends up in the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
, not to mention many other venues including churches and some of America's most illustrious family's dining rooms. He began work in
1805,
having been trained by his father, a watchmaker and silversmith, and went on to work with his brother for many years, and alone, as well. In the end, his son took the reins, and he died while still actively working in
1870.
What he
left us were examples, such as this, of his fine artistry.
This early coin piece from the
1830s
crafted in
11 silver
signifying a purity of 91.66% having been forged from
French francs,
remains in very
good antique condition
(
see condition report)
with little wear
to the pattern and a period script monogram (eCh. ) Aspectacular example of Warner's talent and creativity. What a wonderful spoon to enjoy, and pass down to posterity!
