    Description

Early American Coin Silver Lancaster, PA Tongs Sheaf of Wheat WH Haverstick
This is a very nice pair of American coin silver tongs made in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in c. 1800-20. The mark is the same shown in Gerstell, and I will leave it to the reader to decide if they were made by William Haverstick Junior or Senior.
They are very similar to those shown on page 65 of “Silversmith of Lancaster Pennsylvania”. These however are a little nicer as they have a strong impression of a sheaf of wheat on the back of each bowl. I am not sure, but this may be one of the earliest uses of this in American silver.
The tongs are marked “W.H” on each arm and are engraved “MS”. They of course have a beautifully engraved flower on each arm.
The tongs weigh 1.07 troy oz. and are 6.25 in. long. We have other Lancaster silver posted.
