Description
This early 19th century American coin silver teapot was crafted by John Belknap Jones of Boston sometime between 1833 and 1839. As it is of a colonial style rather than Federal, our guess is that it is of a style that had been produced in this workshop since 1796 when John McFarlane operated it. This historic artifact was hand chased and has so much raised work (oak and acanthus leaves) that there is no doubt that this would have been one of a family’s most cherished heirlooms. This beauty weighs in at over 31 Troy ounces, so it is no lightweight piece either. The teapot measures about 9 1/2” tall and about 11” spout to handle. There is a small piece of the handle insulator missing and it has been monogrammed discretely. This is your opportunity to own a true piece of Early American History!
